UIC Library Web Interface Redesign
With the popularization of online libraries in colleges and universities, it is necessary to study the usability of campus library website. This paper focused on the existing problems of layouts and functional icons in UIC LRC web interface, with an aim to optimize it based on the previous research results, and to build a useful library web interface prototype. Design principles were concluded from the previous study for re-designing the layouts and functional icons. Tasks and observation, questionnaire survey and interviews were conducted for examining the three attributes of usability including efficiency, learnability and satisfaction. The results of this study show that the optimization of layouts and functional icons, basing on the design principles drawn from the previous studies on web interface design, can improve the usability of LRC web interface. This study has not only reflected the validity of the summarized design principles, but also pointed out the importance of subsequent research on language and information integration in UI design.
